City of Canada Bay switches to sustainable dog bags

Sustainability | 22 November 2019

The City of Canada Bay will replace all single-use, plastic dog bags in the area with biodegradable alternatives.

Developed by Australian company Oh Crap, the new dog bags are 100% biodegradable and disintegrate in landfill within three months, not decades.

“Single-use plastic is one of the biggest threats to the environment and we plan to take every opportunity we can to move towards more sustainable alternatives,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“Our dog bag dispensers, available in parks across the City, work hand in hand with our community education campaign to encourage responsible pet ownership and reduce litter in our open spaces and waterways.”

The dog bags play an important role in the City of Canada Bay’s Litter Strategy, which aims to prevent littering and reduce litter in hotspots by 50 per cent by 2021.

“We encourage all pet owners to clean up after their pet, bag it and bin it! Keeping our open spaces clean is everyone’s responsibility,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.
