Community collaboration for new public art

Community & events | 22 May 2019

Where is the next hot spot for street art in the City of Canada Bay?

“In our ongoing quest to keep our City colourful and bright, we are asking the community to find a fantastic location within the City of Canada Bay for our next street artwork,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

The City of Canada Bay is asking residents to share ideas about what new art they would like to see and where. Council will choose the best submission and commission the art work this year.

“Get creative – street art can exist anywhere! Garage doors, walls, ping pong tables, on buildings you'd like to camouflage into natural surroundings, on messy walls that are often targets for graffiti, park benches and electricity boxes,” he said.

The City of Canada Bay is already home to 65 permanent installations and hosts an average of 25 gallery exhibitions across their libraries and museum each year.

“Artwork in public spaces adds colour, vibrancy and personality to our City. In recent years, we've worked with many local artists to create beautiful murals across our area.” Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“For our next artwork, we are looking for creative ideas that serve a purpose or help our local landscape in some way.”

This may be about adding vibrancy to the space, covering up graffiti, bringing attention to the building, community or what is signifies, or helping a wall blend in better with its natural environment.

All entries go in the running to win a $200 dining voucher to a local restaurant of your choice.
