Concord war memorial upgrade completed in time for Remembrance Day 2015

| 10 November 2015

The $150,000 upgrade includes the final stage of restoration and re-installation of marble tablets, which honour those who served post World War I.

The octagonal-shaped war memorial, known as the Concord Pavilion of Honour, was constructed in 1921 and is a significant heritage item. It is also a focal point for memorial services on Remembrance Day and Anzac Day.

The upgrade work was funded by the Australian Government’s ANZAC Centenary Local Grants Program (just under $40,000), Concord RSL and City of Canada Bay.

"It is important we continue to honour and remember those who served and continue to serve our country," Mayor Tsirekas said.

We will be given the opportunity to do this on Wednesday, 11 November which marks the 97th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18), and is known as Remembrance Day.
