Council set for $90 million investment into the City of Canada Bay

Council | 28 July 2021

The City of Canada Bay has announced a record $93.5 million capital works program — its most ambitious capital works program to date.

“At a time when local economic stimulus is dearly needed, we are thrilled to be injecting record capital expenditure into our local economy this financial year,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

This program is part of the City of Canada Bay’s Operational Plan 2021-22.

“Our ongoing commitment to business improvement and long-term financial stability puts us in a great position to inject record funds into our community.”

The COVID–19 pandemic has taken its toll on our local economy and Local Government plays an important role in economic revival.

Alongside major projects, our Operational Plan importantly commits resources to improve and maintain core Council services and infrastructure that the community needs now more than ever.

The planned infrastructure program will not only improve the City of Canada Bay for residents, workers and visitors, it will also create thousands of jobs.

This financial year the City of Canada Bay will open the gates to the redeveloped Concord Oval, a new state-of-the-art recreation precinct for the future of the local community.

Among other projects, the City of Canada Bay will be delivering the Drummoyne Shared Spaces ($3 million), Timbrell Park fields and amenities upgrade ($2.13 million), and opening the Charles Heath Reserve project ($3.2 million).

This year’s program also includes $18 million for our area’s roads and footpaths, $3.4 million for local cycleways and $2.4 million invested into Council’s buildings and property across the City.

“This year’s program continues growth in investment into the local area when our community needs it most,” Mayor Tsirekas said.
