Four things you can recycle that may surprise you

Sustainability | 12 November 2019

This week, we're celebrating National Recycling Week, the annual opportunity for everyone in the community to brush up on their knowledge and become successful recyclers.

Did you know that all the below items can be placed in your yellow-lidded bin for recycling?

1. Deodorant and other aerosol cans
2. Pizza boxes
3. Tetra paks
4. Yoghurt tubs (just remove the soft plastic lid)

As a general rule of thumb, you can recycle any:

  • Steel, aerosol and aluminium cans
  • Hard plastic bottles or containers
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Paper, cartons, and cardboard

But something you can't recycle? Plastic bags. These can jam the equipment at the recycling facility, so we can’t recycle them or anything placed in them. This includes wrappers and films.

If your recycling is in a plastic bag, the whole bag will be sent to landfill. Plastic bags can be reused or returned to a soft plastic recycling station at your local supermarket. Check RedCycle for your nearest recycling drop off point.
