Meterless parking being trialled in Canada Bay

| 05 March 2014

“We are partnering with Blue Dot Parking to introduce a meter-less system which could revolutionise the way people pay for parking,” he said.

“We are one of the first communities in Australia to trial the system which involves the use of an smart-phone app where people pay for their parking entirely online.”

The system is being trialled at Everton Road, Strathfield (opposite the North Strathfield Train Station) and if successful, could be rolled out to other areas of the community, with Rider Boulevard at Rhodes being considered as one of the next sites.

Blue Dot Parking CEO Matthew Donnellan said the system was a simple process that focuses on wireless technology to generate efficiencies for Council and ease the stress of public parking for the community.

“This system allows people to extend their time in a parking spot without having to go back to the car and feed the meter,” he said.

“All you do is download the Blue Dot app to your smartphone, log on once with credit card or debit card details and pay for what you use when you are in a dedicated Blue Dot area.  It’s much easier than finding coins to feed a parking metre.

“We have seen the way Canada Bay embraces technology and innovation which made it an easy decision to partner with them.”

The system will be trialled for 12 months in Strathfield and Blue Dot Parking is hoping to roll it out in other LGAs across NSW.
