Michael Megna has been appointed Mayor of the City of Canada Bay by the NSW Governor, following his nomination by fellow Councillors in December 2023.
“I am extremely proud to have been appointed to the office of Mayor,” Cr Megna said.
“The City of Canada Bay is a beautiful and vibrant area with a wonderful sense of community. I look forward to continuing the great work of this Council as Mayor, with a strong focus on core services and planning for a bright future for our residents, local businesses and community organisations.”
Michael was first elected to Drummoyne Council in 1987 and served four years as Deputy Mayor and six years as Mayor.
In 2004 he was elected to the City of Canada Bay Council after the merger of Drummoyne and Concord Councils in 2000 and is now serving his eighth term, representing his community for more than 30 years.
Michael has a strong interest in utilising our river transport system and was instrumental in securing new Rivercat services and wharves at Chiswick, Cabarita and Abbotsford.
He also secured funding for the construction of the Bay Run around Iron Cove. Being a lifelong, third generation City of Canada Bay resident, Michael is a strong community representative and is a passionate advocate for local residents and businesses.
Michael is also a Chartered Tax Advisor and has operated a business in Five Dock since 1974.
