A new playground for Queen Elizabeth Park

Council | 01 December 2022

“The children of the City of Canada Bay will soon have an exciting new space to play in, with an upgraded playground set to open in Queen Elizabeth Park."

"The opening in concord will be held on Saturday, 3 December 2022," City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

The $730,000 project includes accessible pathways and play equipment, a three-bay swing set, an adventure unit for older children, sand and water play, cubby, nature trail, sensory based activities and an outdoor learning circle.

“The City of Canada Bay prioritises the continual improvement of recreational opportunities in our community, and we are committed to carrying out ongoing upgrades to our playground infrastructure,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“The upgraded playground provides an opportunity for people for all ages and walks of life to come together, to celebrate, support and promote play and a healthy lifestyle no matter your ability.”

As part of the works, the playground space has been fenced and moved further into the park to allow play in the natural shade of the trees and away from the road.

The project is proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with the City of Canada Bay and aligns with the City of Canada Bay’s Lets All Play Strategy, which commits Council to making play spaces more inclusive.

“I hope this playground brings joy to families in Concord and across the City of Canada Bay,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

Media and the public are invited to come along to the opening event on Saturday, 3 December 2022 from 10am–12pm to enjoy a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, special tree walk plus other fun nature activities.
