New speed limits will apply

| 04 May 2015

As of 13 May, George Street, North Strathfield will have its speed limit reduced from 50 KM/hour to 40 KM/hour.

“We are introducing a number of speed reduction zones, in an effort to reduce the number of pedestrian injuries,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“We lobbied RMS last year to reduce speed limits in high pedestrian areas following concerns from the community about their safety.”

George St, North Strathfield will be the first zone to have its speed reduced, taking effect on 13 May. Roseby Street, Birkenhead, between Renwick Street and the cul-de-sac and Henley Marine Drive, Drummoyne, between Thompson Street and Formosa Street will so have 40 KM/hour speed limits enforced.

RMS have permitted the introduction of 40 KM/hour speed zones in areas where there is high pedestrian activity. These areas include suburban shopping strips and business areas which generate high pedestrian volumes.

Rhodes Peninsula will be the focus for further speed reductions in the next phase.

The new speed limits will be installed by June (weather permitting) and will be applied at all times of the day.
