“We have chosen Brook Andrew’s work, In Motion, to feature in The Connection, the new community precinct to be built in Rhodes. This artwork references communities that once used this site as well as the current local community; bringing together cultures from the past, present and future,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“We provided a brief to artists to design an integrated public artwork that is innovative, has integrity and that connects with the local community and site in order to create a unique experience of Rhodes.

“To have someone of Brook’s stature working with us to develop and install public art that will be an essential part of the design of The Connection is fantastic.”

In Motion, traces a desire-line in colour and LEDs throughout the site which helps to navigate around the buildings, and highlight the entrance to the Connection. The artwork guides visitors to places for respite, play and water views at key locations around the buildings, as well as activates the site during the day and night whilst offering a narrative about the history and future of the Rhodes community.

Brook Andrew is one of Australia’s most well-known contemporary artists; with a high profile career he has exhibited work in Australia and overseas. His artwork, Warrang, marks the entrance of the new Museum of Contemporary Art building in Sydney.

Andrew works with communities and museum collections to challenge historical perceptions and create new work relating to historical object display.
