Plan to kick-start Five Dock Town Centre

“We have been consulting with residents and the business community to develop plans for the future of Five Dock. This is a 20-year vision to transform the area,” he said.

“We want to retain the village feel that people have come to love about Five Dock but also provide for economic and commercial growth.”

Following community consultations and workshops, the Five Dock Town Centre Urban Design Study was completed late last year, with a range of key recommendations. These include:

“This plan is about providing incentive for redevelopment in Five Dock while still retaining the intimate sense of place and community that makes it appealing for people to shop, work, live and visit,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“It is a long-term vision to ensure Five Dock is appealing as an area to invest in without losing the character of the suburb. Five Dock Town Centre will be seen as a very attractive residential address."

Mayor Tsirekas said in the short-term there would be obvious improvements such as tree planting and streetscape upgrades, along with a new public toilet and play equipment in Fred Kelly Place.

“The proposed transformation won’t happen all at once. We believe there are several opportunities for some quick wins but this is a 20-year project, estimated to be valued at around $8 million for the public domain,” he said.

The next step is for the development of a Planning Proposal and Development Control Plan (DCP) which will be placed on public exhibition.
