Staffy takes out top dog title

| 24 August 2017

There are about 2000 more Staffys registered in the City of Canada Bay than Labradors – the most popular breed in the state according to Dogs NSW.

In fact, there are a number of breeds in the City’s top 10 that differ from the NSW list including the Kelpie, Cavoodle, Jack Russell and Maltese cross Shih Tzu.

Nationally the canine population is estimated at 4.8 million, 52 per cent of which are pure bred.

With lots of green space and plenty of on and off-leash parks, the City of Canada Bay is a wonderful place for our four-legged friends to explore and roam.

The Council is able to compile this list of dog breeds living in our area, as residents must Lifetime Register their canine companions with their local Council when they reach six months of age under the Companion Animals Act.

Firstly, dogs must be microchipped and secondly, registered with Council by lodging relevant forms and paying a fee.

These two steps will make it possible for your pet to be reunited with you if they are lost.

To find out more about registration visit the  and search 'animal registration' or phone 9911 6555.

The Greyhound, Poodle, Chihuahua, Golden Retriever and Rottweiler round up the top 15 breeds.
