Safety, Accessibility and Sustainability

Breadcrumb

At Ferragosto this year, we are actively working towards delivering a safe, accessible and sustainable event in a number of areas.

Safety

Lost person

A lost person may be a child or a vulnerable individual without an accompanying adult. If you find someone who is lost, please inform the nearest security personnel or event staff member, or go to the police stall, and notify them of the situation.

If you are an adult looking for a missing child or vulnerable individual, please stay at their last known location and inform event staff, security personnel, police, or Council staff at the Information Stall if you are nearby.

First aid

First aid hubs will be located throughout the event.

To ensure that they are easily found, first aid signage will be displayed in front of each hub.

Adverse weather

In the event of adverse weather conditions, announcements will be made to remind all attendees to seek shelter, wear appropriate clothing, and apply sunscreen. Council staff will be available to direct you to the nearest drinking stations and first aid hubs.

For extreme weather conditions, Council may cancel or postpone the event to ensure the safety and security of all attendees.

Accessibility

Amenities

There will be accessible toilets located throughout the festival, as well as designated seating areas to ensure comfort as you enjoy the delicious treats offered at the nearby stalls.

Entertainment

Our stages will host a diverse array of performers, showcasing a wide range of talents. At the  Main Stage, an AUSLAN interpreter will be present during speeches and performer introductions. Moreover, there will be accessible seating for senior visitors and people with disabilities.

Information

Announcements will be made throughout the festival, directing people to key areas of interest and reminding them of our amenities. To aid with wayfinding, signage will be displayed clearly in several areas of the event.

Transport

There is accessible car parking available at Waterview Street Carpark and bike parking spots in Kings Road and Rodd Road.

Sustainability

Sustainable transport

Get to Ferragosto the green way! Transport is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to event emissions — but you can help keep our festival footprint light. Choose one of these eco-friendly options:

🚲 Ride your bike — we’ve got dedicated bike parking ready and waiting.

🚌 Hop on the free shuttle bus — convenient, easy, and zero stress.

🚶Walk it in — turn your trip into part of the fun (and get those steps in!)

Every little choice makes a big difference — together we can make this our most sustainable festival yet!

Single-use plastics

Ditch the disposables! We’re keeping it green at this year's festival — stallholders won’t be handing out single-use plastic bags, straws, cutlery, food packaging or balloons. Help us cut the waste even further by bringing your own:

✔️ Reusable bags
✔️ Reusable cutlery
✔️ Reusable cups and containers

Stay hydrated — sustainably!
Free water stations and bubblers will be set up around the event. Just bring your refillable water bottle and top up all day long.

Small actions, big impact — let’s make waste-free the new normal.

Learn about sustainable living

Sustainability starts at home so let's chat at Ferragosto! Swing by the Council Information section and meet the friendly Sustainability & Waste Team. We’re here to help you take simple steps towards living greener every day. Drop in to:

♻️ Bin it right — learn what goes where, how to recycle tricky items, and where to take problem waste.

🌿 Tackle weeds & boost biodiversity — discover which weeds to watch out for, which plants are natives, and how to keep your garden thriving.

☀️ Power up your home — explore how solar and electrification can help you save energy and cut emissions.

🔄 Help shape our Circular Economy Plan — share your ideas to help Council build a future where nothing goes to waste and materials are reused again and again.

Big changes start with small conversations — come chat with us and be part of the solution!

A carbon neutral event

We’re keeping our footprint small! Any emissions created by this event are fully offset — meaning we’ve invested in projects that reduce or absorb the same amount of greenhouse gases we produce. Through certified carbon offset programs, we’re making sure this event stays carbon neutral from start to finish.

Enjoy the festival knowing you’re part of a climate-friendly celebration!
