Make a difference in the community

Council | 05 May 2022

The City of Canada Bay is currently seeking applications to join its Access and Inclusion Committee and Rhodes Community Committee.

“The City of Canada Bay is committed to giving members of our community a voice in decision making,” City of Canada Bay Deputy Mayor Stephanie Di Pasqua said.

“Our committees provide an opportunity for community members to contribute to the development of Council plans and strategies by providing information, advice and feedback.

“I encourage people who think they have the right skills and experience to benefit each committee’s work to get in touch with Council.”

Access and Inclusion Committee

The Access and Inclusion Committee aims to create a more inclusive City with equal opportunities for residents to be involved in the community. It also assists Council to identify and remove barriers to participation for people with disability.

The committee is made up of a diverse group of volunteers representing a range of disabilities, social backgrounds and not-for-profit organisations providing disability or inclusion services locally.

Members are appointed for a Council term and should be willing to gain an understanding of the City of Canada Bay’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan, which was adopted late last year and outlines the actions Council will take to improve accessibility.

The Access and Inclusion Committee’s purpose is to:

  • Provide expertise and advice to Council to assist implementation of the Disability Inclusion Action Plan
  • Promote access, equity, opportunity and raise awareness of the rights of people with a disability, and people who are socially isolated within the community
  • Contribute to increasing inclusion of people across all sections of our diverse community
  • Support the implementation of Council’s strategies and plans.
