The City of Canada Bay is proud to open its first official nature trail from Queen Elizabeth Park to Edwards Park, Concord this month.
More than 60 native plant species have been planted along the route to support local biodiversity, while educational signage has been installed to assist our community to connect with and learn about our natural environment.
“A true community effort, local volunteers, members of Harry’s Shed and students from Concord High School, who helped to design the wonderful interpretive signs, all united with Council to bring this special project to life,” says City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna.
“Everyone who contributed should be very proud of the impressive result. The accessible nature trail now serves as a sustainable urban sanctuary for birds, insects and other wildlife, offering a safe haven and inviting pathway for all to enjoy.”
This project was proudly funded by the NSW Government’s Places to Roam — Regional Trails Program in association with the City of Canada Bay.
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the NSW Government has invested $270,000 through the Places to Roam program to enhance a much-loved community nature space.
“The NSW Government is pleased to help create the City of Canada Bay’s first permanent green nature trail linking Edwards and Queen Elizabeth Parks. The trail will support native wildlife and connect fragmented areas of urban habitat,” Mr Scully said.
“This project delivers a new nature trail for the local community while also supporting the NSW Government’s ‘Biodiversity in Place’ framework. More than 60 different species of native plants have been planted along the trail to increase Concord’s native biodiversity.
“We want to balance our housing increases in urban areas with plenty of new green open space for surrounding residents to explore, play and unwind.”
