The City of Canada Bay has announced that it is one of 35 Councils who will share in $220 million of State Government funding.
The grant has been provided, to support the repair of roads that have been damaged by unprecedented rainfall in the last year.
“We are committed to continuously improving our roads and improving safety for local motorists,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.
“This new funding will increase our capacity to swiftly address road and pothole repairs and means motorists will enjoy safer and more reliable journeys.”
The funding was divided amongst NSW Councils based on the proportion of overall roads managed within Metropolitan areas in NSW. The City of Canada Bay is set to receive more than $2.3 million of the broader grant, which is to be used by February 2024.
Over the last year, two City of Canada Bay crews were deployed to exclusively repair over 1,630 potholes that were reported by residents.
“With challenging weather conditions, we have progressively seen the number and severity of potholes increase, along with the costs associated with urgent repairs,” Mayor Tsirekas said.
“The injection of this funding will go a long way in allowing us to deliver immediate benefits to residents who have been frustrated by the impact of last year’s record rainfall.
“It is my hope that with the support of this funding, many more of our roads can continue to be returned to even better condition than they were in prior to the unprecedented weather conditions.”
