Concord Library View in maps

Join us at Concord Library for session 3 of our 5-part series on everything artificial intelligence (AI).

Want to understand what makes AI seem “smart”? Session 3 explains how modern AI learns from data, using machine learning and deep learning, without requiring a technical background. We will also look at why AI can be impressive and why it can sometimes be unreliable.

About the presenter:

Murali Dharan, previously an executive at Microsoft and IBM, has been advising and supporting companies in Australia and the Asia Pacific for over 45 years. He is a business leader, entrepreneur, technologist, coach and adjunct professor. He is also an active volunteer and non-profit leader. Murali regularly teaches and lectures on AI and related topics, including free programs at local libraries and conferences.

Session 3 will cover:

  • Machine learning, what it is and how it differs from traditional software
  • Deep learning, what it adds and why it matters
  • Data science basics, what data is used and why quality matters
  • Why AI can make mistakes (and what those mistakes look like)
  • Examples that connect the concepts to everyday AI tools

About the series:

AI Made Simple is a 5-part seminar that aims to break down the complexity of AI.

  • Session 1: Your introduction to AI
  • Session 2: AI in Everyday Life
  • Session 3: How AI Learns
