Join us for an author talk with journalist Alan Attwood, at the Sydney launch of his latest book, Houdini Unbound: Mystery, Music and Flying Machines.

Alan has written for publications ranging from The Sunday Times to Time magazine, and covered events as diverse as the first free elections in South Africa, soccer in Northern Greece, political intrigue in Morocco, and four Olympic Games.

He has worked as the New York-based correspondent for The Age and Sydney Morning Herald newspapers and as the editor of The Big Issue.

His previous novels include Sinking into Winter, shortlisted for The Australian/Vogel Literary Award in 1990, Breathing Underwater (1997), and Burke’s Soldier, shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize in 2004.

In his latest book, Alan has written a historical novel about Harry Houdini's first visit to Australia. Houdini's passion for aviation sees him hoping to claim a record in Australia at the same time as Halley's Comet is swinging past.

Better Read than Dead bookshop will be at Concord Library on the night selling copies of Alan's latest book.

Light refreshments will be served from 6pm.
