Create.Make.Connect: Japanese Fabric Ball Workshop

Join us for a FREE Kimekomi Mari Workshop and learn the techniques behind this beautiful traditional Japanese art form.

Kimekomi, originating in Kyoto during the 18th Century, involves tucking fabric into carved lines to form elegant patterns on a ball-shaped base, creating decorative, patchwork-style ornaments.

In this workshop, your facilitator, Izumi Montgomery, will guide you through instructions to craft your very own Kimekomi Mari ball keychain.

No sewing experience is needed, and craft beginners are welcome and encouraged to attend. The workshop will start at 10:45am sharp!

About your presenter:

Izumi Montgomery is a Japanese artist and workshop facilitator based in Sydney. After completing her Master of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts, she studied fashion design at TAFE and began creating wearable art and accessories using second-hand and upcycled materials. Izumi regularly runs sustainability-focused textile workshops at Reverse Garbage and community venues across Sydney.
