Paper quilling is an art that was popular amongst women in the 18th century in Europe. Most women created quilling art to decorate their jewellery boxes and other ornaments, such as picture frames.
Modern quilling is found more commonly in greeting cards, Christmas tags and tree decoration items. Contemporary artists create wearable jewellery such as earrings, pendants, bracelets and the like. Many even create paper sculptures with the art of quilling.
In this exhibition, Mabel G and Christine Donehue have combined the art and techniques of paper quilling with painting, collage, and mixed media pieces to express their love for their families, the love of life (and kids and cats), the love of nature, and the love of creation.
Paper quilling is a fun and enjoyable hobby—the artists hope that you you are inspired and take up this gratifying pastime!
