The Lab Five Dock (Term 1, 2026)

The Lab Five Dock (Term 1, 2026)

Five Dock Library View in maps

The Lab is a network of technology clubs for young people with autism who enjoy working with computers.

In The Lab Five Dock, we focus on building foundational tech skills with the support of experienced mentors. Participants can explore gaming, coding, 3D printing, and more — all in a welcoming and supportive environment that encourages social growth alongside hands-on learning.

Designed for young teenagers, sessions run at Five Dock Library on Monday afternoons from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, for 9 weeks during school terms. Parents are encouraged to stay in the library where there are workspaces and free WiFi.

The Lab takes an unstructured, participant-driven approach, so every session is unique. Young people join activities that interest them, rather than being required to do anything. This approach is built on The Lab’s experience with hundreds of young participants, creating a space that’s fun, accepting, and inspiring — a place to hang out, learn, and enjoy technology at your own pace.

Important to know:

  • At the Five Dock location, we require all students Bring Your Own Device (BOYD) as we do not have computers or iPads.

  • The Lab Five Dock is for participants aged 10+. We apply this age guide to support the group’s needs and interests. Children aged 15+ are encouraged to join The Lab Rhodes.

  • Photos and video may be taken during the sessions and shared across the library's and Council's communication channels (including but not limited to social media and eNewsletters). Please notify a staff member if you do not wish to be photographed or filmed.
