Meet the Author: Tom Keneally

Five Dock Library View in maps

From one of Australia’s most loved authors comes a joyful reimagining of the adventures of Charles Dickens’ tenth child, Edward Bulwer Lytton Dickens, known as Plorn. It is the late 1800s and Dickens has farewelled Plorn; sending him off to ‘apply himself’ in Australia. Reticent, and unsure of his ability, Plorn nevertheless throws himself into this journey of self-discovery.

Keneally weaves tales of historical figures and events amongst Plorn’s own adventures allowing us to examine Australia’s long-standing relationships with class and race that run parallels to an exploration of family breakdowns and their long lasting impact. Written with compassion and humour The Dickens Boy is Keneally at his very best.
