Pre-European Indigenous Cartography Workshop

What does it mean to be on Wangal Land?

Aboriginal elder, Uncle Jimmy Smith, will share his knowledge and deep connection to Wangal Country with participants in this unique form of contemporary First Nations storytelling.

In this hands-on workshop for adults, Uncle Jimmy will host a guided walk to connect you to some of the plants, animals, landforms and waterways in the area before you create your own hand-drawn map incorporating Indigenous place, plant and animal names with pre-European cartography techniques to illustrate connection to Country.

10:30am: Meet at Concord Library for guided walk 
11:00am—12:30pm: Light catering and workshop

Uncle Jimmy Smith is a Wiradjuri and Gadigal Man, and one of Sydney’s leading cultural educators. He is passionate about teaching First Nations culture, and sharing his connection and understanding of Wangal land with those of us who now live, work, learn and play here.
