Council | 14 May 2025

Following Council elections in late 2024, the City of Canada Bay has prepared a suite of planning documents to guide the work of Council across the new term, including the Draft Delivery Program and Operational Plan (DPOP).

“I’m delighted to hand over to our community our plan for the next four years and a detailed plan for the 2025-2026 year ahead. This plan delivers on our commitment for a ‘back to basics approach to core Council responsibilities, whilst also presenting an ambitious infrastructure agenda underpinned by a $43 million capital works budget,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna said.

“This year’s program reflects Council’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure, sustainable development and community facilities that respond to the needs of our growing and diverse population,” Mayor Michael Megna said.

Key Capital Works Highlights for 2025–2026

The draft plan includes a suite of major projects across the City, including:

  • Completion of the Rhodes Recreation Centre and surrounding public domain improvements – a major new hub for sport, health and wellbeing.
  • Upgrades to the Timbrell Park playing surface, supporting active lifestyles and community sport.
  • A major upgrade of Howley Park East, featuring improved pedestrian access, a new lawn terrace with seating steps and park benches.
  • Continued progress on the Parramatta to Sydney Foreshore Link, delivered in partnership with Transport for NSW, creating more active transport opportunities along the Parramatta River.

Council will continue investments in local roads, traffic safety, footpaths and cycleways, with more than $10 million allocated to roads and traffic programs, including:

  • Road resurfacing and renewal programs
  • Traffic studies and improvements in Drummoyne, Five Dock, and Mortlake
  • Accessibility works and pedestrian lighting upgrades across the City

A Broader Vision for Liveable, Sustainable Communities

The plan also supports community wellbeing, climate resilience and cultural life through investments such as:

  • The delivery and support of major community festivals such as Five Dock’s Ferragosto 2025, this year’s Halloween street party on Major’s Bay Road, Concord, Foreshore Flicks across the LGA and the Rhodes Moon Festival.
  • The Canada Bay Youth Connect Project, providing spaces and activities for young people
  • A vibrant and multicultural annual library events program
  • Sustainability and flood management programs and expanded stormwater and drainage upgrades

“This ambitious infrastructure program reflects Council’s long-term vision for a more connected, inclusive and sustainable city.”

“From new parks and recreation centres to safer roads and foreshore links, this plan lays the foundation for a better quality of life for our residents today and in the future,” Mayor Megna said.”

“We’re proud to work alongside the community and our State and Federal partners to deliver projects that make a real difference.”
