Another award win for Canada Bay

| 27 October 2014

“We won this award for our 'Community Energy Efficiency Program' (CEEP), which replaced a range of ageing energy infrastructure in our large community facilities, resulting in significant savings,” he said.

“This program involved the replacement of all existing lighting, heating and air conditioning infrastructure with energy efficient technology across our major energy consuming sites at Concord Oval, the Five Dock Leisure Centre and at our Admin and Depot Buildings.

“It was a significant investment in infrastructure but is already seeing major savings. It has seen a decrease in energy and maintenance costs of almost $110,000 per annum, allowing us to recover all the costs of the project within five years.”

The IPWEA Awards promote and recognise excellence in local government and public works projects.

The 'Environmental Enhancement Project or Imitative' category recognises a commitment to sustainability and the environment.

This is one of many awards the City of Canada Bay has won in the area of sustainability and the environment over the past two years, including being the state winner in the Keep NSW Beautiful awards.

“CEEP is an excellent example of innovative thinking in regards to sustainable projects that will not only reduce energy consumption but also save our community money,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“Overall it has reduced energy consumption across the CEEP sites by 31.8 per cent, reduced energy costs by 24.5 per cent, decreased maintenance costs by $35,000 per annum and reduced our carbon emissions by 31.4 per cent.”
