Concord Carnival 2019
Wed, 13/03/2019 - 16:50

UPDATE SUN 17 MARCH 9:15AM

We're sorry to announce Concord Carnival is cancelled. Since this morning the state of the grounds has continued to deteriorate and unfortunately this makes the park too slippery and unsafe for an event of this nature. Thank you to everyone for your enthusiasm and excitement about the event, we hope to see you next time.

Be part of the ultimate throwback as Concord Carnival relives the days of old at the heritage-inspired festival this Sunday.

Come along to Greenlees Park from 10am-4pm on Sunday, 17 March and celebrate the Halcyon Days of Concord, a significant and iconic period of time that spanned from the 1920s through to the late 1940s.

“Attracting over 30,000 people annually, this year’s Concord Carnival pays homage to the historical significance of the Halcyon Days. The visual identity born from this time still defines the character of our area,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“There is something for everyone at this year’s carnival, including over 100 food, merchandise and information stalls, vintage displays, as well as free amusement rides and entertainment.”

Jump aboard the Cobb & Co Coach horse and carriage for a free ride around the carnival. Lead by two beautiful Clydesdales, it’s an experience not to miss!

Discover the magic inside the Spiegel tent with lively entertainment from Charleston dancers and magician Julian Bull throughout the day.

Enjoy free amusement rides for young and old, including train rides and a huge carousel.

Don’t miss the carnival’s headline act Arthur Washington Sexytet (which is actually a quartet), who will be gracing us with their presence for two energetic sets on the main stage. The band is led by Arthur Washington, a talented young jazz guitarist from Sydney who has been playing for over a decade. Arthur’s energetic style of playing derives from the traditional gypsy jazz style created by Django Reinhardt in the 1940’s.

Experience fantastic vintage vehicle displays, including a war tank from Royal NSW Lancers, vintage truck from the Museum of Fire, and Leyland bus from Sydney Bus Museum.

Get your groove on and move and shake during the carnival with dancers from All About Swing and Gatsby dancers.

The City of Canada Bay is proud to present a plastic bag and helium balloon free Concord Carnival, where event-goers can fill up their water bottles at bubblers, in an effort to reduce waste and the event’s environmental footprint. Visitors are encouraged to cycle to the event or take the shuttle bus, and bring their own reusable bag, drink bottle and picnic blanket.

The event is also dog friendly, so bring along your pooch and don’t forget the clean-up bags!

Concord Carnival is on Sunday, 17 March from 10am-4pm at Greenlees Park, Concord.
