Controversial aged care facility refused

| 22 October 2013

The proposal was heard last week (Thursday 17 October) by the Joint Regional Planning Panel (JRPP) who refused the application.

“Our community has been strongly opposed to this development since day one and we received more than 130 objections,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“We have been right behind the community on this issue and lobbied the JRPP and Minister for Planning.

“We always believed the development was inappropriate for this location.  It was commercial in nature, would have created major traffic issues and was also located away from key amenities such as shops, health services and public transport.

Mayor Tsirekas said flaws in the State Environment Planning Policy for Seniors Living created an expectation that developments of this nature are suitable in any residentially zoned area.

“Thankfully common sense prevailed in this instance which is great news for the community in and around St Albans Street, Abbotsford,” he said.
