"We have another action-packed year of entertainment and activities with everything from dancing, singing, cooking demonstrations, gelato and pizza eating competitions, and outdoor Italian cinema," he said.
This year's festival includes four stages featuring an exciting mix of Italian, homegrown and children's entertainment, along with fantastic cooking demonstrations. We are excited to announce a stand out performance on the FerraVarieta stage - CIAO! - a dance and theatrical extravaganza of an immigrant arriving to Australia for the first time. CIAO! is based on the true story of an Italian migrants journey to Australia in the 1950s. It's filled with laughter, comedy, dance and emotion and is not to be missed.
In celebration of migrants from Italy and across the globe the Australian National Maritime Museum will be at the festival with their initiative The Welcome Wall. The Welcome Wall stands at The Australian National Maritime Museum in honour of those who migrated from countries around the world to live in Australia. Opened in 1998 it has more than 27,000 names representing over 250 nationalities. There are currently over 3000 names from Italian ancestry on the wall, with Italy being the second most popular country listed. Come and visit the Welcome Wall stand at Ferragosto and find out how you can register your family name.
And don't forget to visit the Insight Vacations stall on the day to enter the draw for your chance to win an eight day tour for two in Italy, worth $5,590.
"It's going to be an action packed fun and exciting day for the whole family," Mayor Tsirekas said.
