Get fit for free in Five Dock

Planning & building | 08 October 2019

Five Dock residents will soon have access to free gym equipment after the City of Canada Bay revealed new plans to upgrade Five Dock Park playground.

Under the proposed plans $140,000 has been allocated to replace and relocate the current playground to a more central location within the park.

A brand new $100,000 adjoining fitness station will also be installed giving visitors free access to exercise equipment.

“We will be providing a modern outdoor fitness circuit next to the playground that will allow anyone to do a fun, free workout while enjoying our beautiful Five Dock Park,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“This upgrade is expanding play and recreation opportunities for both children and adults alike.”

The new children’s playground will cater for a broader age range and include elements such as nature play and sensory play, as well as new types of equipment.

The new location has better accessibility from the main pathway through the park, is closer to the toilets, offers better passive surveillance for children’s safety and is in a higher use area with the sports oval adjoining the space and the skate park nearby.

“We are the recreational hotspot of the inner west and we will continue to provide new opportunities for our residents to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

Construction is set to begin in early 2020 with the site opening in late June 2020.

The project is out for consultation until 15 October 2019. Visit bit.ly/fivedockplayground for more information.
