Litter prevention message

| 03 April 2017

Car parks in Five Dock and Drummoyne will display the Litter Prevention Project message. City of Canada Bay Mayor Helen McCaffrey said car parks are some of our most littered places in the local government area, especially during the weekend.

“Canada Bay Council takes pride in having clean public spaces and we want our community to help keep our area clean,” Mayor McCaffrey said. “We encourage those who have rubbish to take it home and dispose of it or put it in one of the bins on the main street instead of using private business bins.”

An individual caught littering can be fined $80 for small items such as bottle tops and cigarette butts and $450 for dangerous items such as a syringe or lit cigarette.

Businesses can be fined $8000 if litter is caused by improper care of waste and bins and likely to cause pollution.
