“This year was Ferragosto’s 18th anniversary and it just gets bigger and better every year,” he said.

“Yet again this year, local businesses and stallholders told me it was one of the busiest days they have ever had. Everyone got into the Italian spirit and enjoyed a great day out.

“It’s great to see local businesses and the community get behind this event. Ferragosto is about celebrating Italy as well as recognising and celebrating the Italian culture and heritage of Five Dock.”

Ferragosto 2015 saw Great North Road transformed into a street of colour, music, live performances, pizza, Italian delicatessens and Italian cooking demonstrations.

New attractions this year included FerraSagra – a food and wine tasting area - which was hugely popular.

A special auto lane was also created featuring the latest vehicles from Canterbury BMW, Audi Five Dock, Leichhardt Alfa Fiat, Five Dock Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Fraser Motorcycles.

Ferragosto also drew the celebrities this year, with well-known chef Darren Robertson joining local chefs at FerraCucina, popular Italian entertainer Alfredo Malabello wooing the crowds and Channel 9’s Philippe and Pascal from the Hot Plate getting plenty of attention.
