“This year’s charity fundraiser will coincide with Asbestos Awareness Week and all monies raised will go to the ADRI to aid research into the treatment of mesothelioma – a cancer caused by asbestos exposure.
“Currently there is no cure for mesothelioma but recently the ADRI announced they were on the verge of a breakthrough in the treatment of the cancer through a new drug.
“The Mayor’s Golf Day will provide additional funding to assist in a trial of this new drug with 20 to 30 patients expected to take part in the trial later in the year.
“I’m proud that the money raised from the Mayor’s Golf Day will go towards such a worthy cause that will hopefully contribute to saving many lives in the future.”
The 2013 Mayor’s Golf Day will be held at Massey Park Golf Club again and registration is $40 per person for the lunch only option.
Registrations are open until close of business on Monday, 11 November.
