The funds will go towards an overall upgrade of the area, including a focus on improving the streetscape and installing new street furniture and artwork. Work has now started on footpath renewal, street furniture replacement, stormwater upgrades and landscaping to enhance the look of the shopping village while retaining its unique heritage.
“Over the past eighteen months, we have formed a strong partnership with local businesses with the aim of upgrading the area and stimulating business,” Mayor Tsirekas said.
“The improvements will encourage the community and visitors to enjoy shopping and dining in and around the North Strathfield Shopping Village.
“This is an area of our community that is rich in history and has a strong business community and we are working together to enhance it even more.”
The streetscape works are taking place along the eastern side of Concord Road from Wellbank Street to Correys Avenue. The majority of work will be undertaken between 7pm and 3am each day, with a pause scheduled during the Christmas trading period, to minimise disruption to businesses.
The project is due for completion in March 2014.
