Ramping up for summer

Business | 30 October 2019

Battersea Park boat ramp upgrade complete in time for summer.

A ramp upgrade is now complete in Battersea Park, Abbotsford to make it easier and safer to launch kayaks, canoes and other non-powered watercraft onto the Parramatta River.

NSW Maritime Executive Director Mark Hutchings said the project was co-funded by the NSW Government and City of Canada Bay and involved the upgrade of the old boat ramp which was steep, short and unsafe.

“The new ramp includes a new fiberglass non-slip surface which is safer for users and extends further out into the water to improve accessibility.

“Construction started in August 2019 with $190,000 in funding provided under the NSW Government’s Boating Now program,” Mr Hutchings said.

City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said the boat ramp is a valuable asset for the community and will be for many years to come.

“The Battersea Park boat ramp in Abbotsford is now complete,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“This upgrade has improved launching facilities for non-powered watercraft such as kayaks and canoes.

“The community can look forward to enjoying this new facility well into the future.”

The Boating Now program provides boaters with better and safer access to NSW waterways with upgrades and new infrastructure such as boat ramps, jetties, pontoons, car parks, and sewage pump-out facilities.
