Record crowds at Ferragosto!

| 13 August 2013

"I want to thank all of our community and the people who travelled from across Sydney to enjoy the atmosphere and celebrate Five Dock's Italian heritage at Ferragosto," said Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.

"I'd also like to thank local businesses in Five Dock, including the Chamber of Commerce who supported the event, as well as all of our sponsors. Without business and sponsor support, it would not have been the success it was."

Mayor Tsirekas also thanked all of the performers who entertained the crowds on the day at three different stages.

"Obviously people would be aware that one of our performers, Ricky Daniele, passed away on Sunday and we want to pay respect to Ricky. Our thoughts are with Ricky's family and friends and the entertainment community in Sydney who lost a fellow performer," said Mayor Tsirekas.

MasterChef winner Julie Goodwin was one of the key attractions as she launched the Environment Protection Agency's "Love Food Hate Waste" campaign. Julie dished up culinary delights such as Arancini Balls from left-over Risotto on the FerraCucina stage, alongside local chefs from restaurants Angelo's on the Bay, La Casa, Gatto Matto Trattoria and Sapori Mediterranean Cuisine.

For the 16th year, Five Dock was transformed into a splendour of colour and extravagance for Ferragosto.

"As with every year, our Italian community really gets behind Ferragosto and turns out in great numbers. The great thing about this event, however, is that it attracts a wide demographic of people from all across Sydney - all who come along to celebrate everything Italian," Mayor Tsirekas said.

The crowds had plenty to keep them busy throughout the day with music and dancing on the FerraFesta and FerraMusica stages, plus there was non-stop children's entertainment on the FerraGiovani stage.

Other attractions included the popular ice cream eating competition, Italian Trivia, free rides, wine tasting, Ducati and classic Italian car displays, over 150 market stalls and much more.

The City of Canada Bay would like to thank everyone for being a part of Ferragosto.

Ferragosto was  proudly brought to you by the City of Canada Bay and supported by the Inner West Courier, Birkenhead Point Outlet Centre, Adshel, Canada Bay Club, Cleanaway, Club Five Dock RSL, Channel  9 and Five Dock Chrysler Jeep Dodge and Leichhardt Fiat Alfa.
