Shaping Five Dock's future

| 22 May 2013

“Five Dock is one of our cultural and business hubs and we want to take that to the next level by working with our community to reinvigorate the town centre,” he said.

“We are preparing a study that will include ideas from our community and businesses on how to make Five Dock even more attractive, friendly and safe for residents, workers and visitors.

“Five Dock already hosts our annual Ferragosto Festival which draws around 50,000 people from across Sydney and we want to look at ways that we can encourage visitors and businesses here on a more regular basis.”

Residents and businesses are being encouraged to get involved with the Urban Design Study for the Five Dock Town Centre by providing feedback and attending workshops and other information sessions.

The outcomes of the study will provide direction in terms of the appearance and function of the Five Dock Town Centre and provides an opportunity for the community to work with the City of Canada Bay to plan for the area’s future.

The City of Canada Bay has appointed design firm Arup and its Sydney-based designers to assist with the preparation of the study and will host a series of engagement activities to get feedback about what people like and would like to see improved with the current town centre.

“We want as many people as possible to have their say in this process and we have created a variety of ways that they can get involved,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“There will be an online collaborative community map allowing people to provide feedback on a web-based map which can be accessed on any device at any time.

“We are also running a series of workshops and a community drop-in session in early June.”

For more information about how you can get involved, enter 'Five Dock Town Centre' in the search function of this site or call 9911 6410.

The first community session will be held on Saturday, 1 June at Fred Kelly Place, Great North Road, Five Dock between 11am - 2pm.
