Despite a rainy start to the day, 50,000 people flocked to Great North Road, Five Dock on Sunday, 17 August, says Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.
“In the 17 years we have run Ferragosto, this was definitely the wettest one we have had. It was also one of the most successful,” Mayor Tsirekas said.
“I had a number of stallholders and businesses tell me they had one of the busiest days.
"We saw approximately 50,000 people at this year’s Ferragosto and they all seemed to get into the Italian spirit; especially as the sun came out in the afternoon.
“It’s great to see local businesses and the community get behind this event. Ferragosto is about celebrating Italy as well as recognising and celebrating the Italian culture and heritage of Five Dock.”
The 17th year of Ferragosto saw Great North Road transformed into a street of colour, music, live performances, pizza, Italian delicatessens and Italian cooking demonstrations.
Despite the chill in the air, we had a great turnout at the gelato-eating competition and trivia. FerraPiazza was buzzing with wine tasters and the outdoor cinema attracted an audience for its two films – and .
