The Vans Park Series Continental Championships and the Vans BMX Pro Cup Regional Qualifiers will return to Five Dock Skatepark on 12-14 April 2019.

“We are thrilled that the Vans Park Series Continental Championships and BMX Pro Cup are returning to Five Dock Skate Park for the second year in a row,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“The return of the competitions speak to the quality of our recreational spaces and marks Five Dock Skatepark as a world-class facility.”

At the event skaters and BMX riders from across Oceania will battle it out for the top spot in the women’s and men’s categories. The top skaters will earn a spot at the 2019 Vans Park Series World Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah while BMX riders will be vying for a place at the Vans BMX Pro Cup World Championships, to be held in Huntington Beach, California.

The events will be broadcast around the world and will highlight Five Dock Skatepark as one of the world’s premier skating and BMX facilities in the lead up to the inclusion of skateboarding as a medal sport alongside BMX at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The events will feature local and regional skateboarding talent such as Poppy Olsen and Jackson Pilz, alongside global BMX superstars Larry Edgar, Alex Hiam and Ellie Chew.

“I’m sure our local residents will share in my excitement that these events will be calling the City of Canada Bay's Five Dock Skatepark home on the weekend of April 12-14.”

“I encourage locals to come along and check out the best of the best at Australia's premier skating and BMX facility.”

Event organiser Andrew Mapstone said both tournaments would be thrilling spectacles, highlighting the talents of some of the world’s best skaters and BMX riders:

“For the winners here at Five Dock it’s a ticket straight into the Vans Park Series World Championships and BMX Pro Cup World Championships, and one step closer to Olympic Gold for Australia.”

The Vans Park Series Continental Championships is open to all skaters including both men and women of all ages.

Five Dock Skate Park will be closed to the public from Monday, 8 April to Monday, 15 April for the competition.
