2019 Concord Carnival: The Canadian Exiles Bayview Park Point Walking Tour

2019 Concord Carnival: The Canadian Exiles Bayview Park Point Walking Tour

Join our Local Studies Librarian on this walk to explore the origins of the name Canada Bay. On 25 February 1840, 58 French-speaking Canadians from Quebec reached Port Jackson on board the ship Buffalo. Rebels against British rule, they (along with 91 English-speaking convicts who had disembarked at Hobart) had been transported to Australia as punishment. Learn about the rebellion, the harsh treatment of the rebels, and their eventual fates.
