Join us on Wednesday, 8 February at 6pm for an exhibition launch of Intoxicating India, or visit Five Dock Library throughout the month to see these new photographs by Maria Poulos.
India is famous for its striking landscapes and colourful festivals. From its legendary cities and soaring temples, India is a great, unfathomable land of contradictions. For every vestige of the British Raj or other colonisers there are rituals and deeply held traditions that have been observed for thousands of years. As crowded city streets sit gridlocked, cows roam freely among the traffic. For each lavish palace there is a modest temple and for every moment of beautiful chaos there is sublime serenity. It is an intoxicating place that can only be experienced to fully comprehend.
In capturing landscapes or portraits, photographer Maria Poulos seeks to not simply document geographic locations and their people but to poetically express an authentic story and experience.
Her passion for photography grew out of a sense of curiosity, awe and wonder and a desire to understand and connect with people in their everyday lives. Maria considers interacting with strangers to be one of photography’s greatest gifts and in this way travelling and welcoming the unknown has changed her life irrevocably.
This is a free exhibition.
No bookings required. You can see this exhibition during library opening hours.
