Residential & Visitor Permit Eligibility

Check if you qualify for a residential or visitor parking permit

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for a residential or visitor parking permit, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Live in a permit parking zone (check the permit map zone)

  • Your property must have limited or no off-street parking (e.g., garage, carport)

  • Your vehicle must be registered to your residential address.

  • Vehicle type must be eligible

Eligible vehicles

  • Private-use cars

  • Motorhomes or vans (under 4.5 tonnes)

  • Motorbikes

Ineligible vehicles

  • Trailers

  • Trucks

  • Buses

  • Caravans

  • Commercial vehicles over 4.5 tonnes

Special cases

Some exceptions may apply. The following vehicle types may be eligible under special conditions:

  • Company Vehicles
    You may apply if you can provide a signed letter from your employer stating:

    • You have full-time use of the vehicle

    • The vehicle is kept at your residential address

  • Interstate Vehicles
    You may apply for a temporary 6-month permit if your vehicle is registered in another state. Additional proof of residency and identity will be required.


How many permits can I apply for?

The number of permits you can apply for depends on:

  • Your property type

  • The number of vehicles registered to your address

  • The amount of off-street parking available (e.g., garage or driveway)
