Five Dock car park redevelopment

In line with the outcomes of the Five Dock Urban Design Study completed in 2014, City of Canada Bay has prepared an Expression of Interest for the redevelopment of the existing car park sites in Waterview Street and Kings Road.

Having completed the first stage of the streetscape improvements on Great North Road earlier this year, and with Stage 2 to commence in mid-2018, redevelopment of both these sites will act as a further catalyst for Five Dock’s revitalisation.

When complete, the car park developments will create a greater sense of community through a mix of residential accommodation along with new retail spaces which will enhance the existing offering on Great North Road.

The new developments will comply with the changes to the Canada Bay Local Environmental Plan 2013 (LEP) which took effect in 2016.

Council is committed to maintaining at a minimum, the existing number of currently available 2-hour free car parking spaces in the Five Dock Town Centre.

Respondents to the EOI will need to demonstrate their capacity to deliver a project of this complexity, and, as part of their submissions, are required to provide construction sequencing which minimises impact to parking during construction.

It is Council’s current expectation that the project will be delivered as a public-private partnership (PPP) under the Local Government Act 1993. Council has been liaising with the OLG in relation to the Project, who have reviewed Council’s proposal and deemed the process compliant with the PPP Guidelines.

Council will seek to appoint a development partner in 2018, and construction on site estimated in 2019. Council will provide further detail of the development as part of the development application process, and will continue to provide updates through this page.
